As they deliver exceptional health care and support services, our nearly 24,000 employees, 5,000 physicians and 2,500 volunteers share a common mission, vision and values.

State of Minnesota

The twelfth largest state by area in the U.S., it is the twenty-first most populous, with just over five million residents. Known as the "Land of 10,000 Lakes", the state's name is the Dakota word for "water". Those waters, together with forests, parks, and wilderness areas, offer residents and tourists a variety of outdoor recreational opportunities. Nearly sixty percent of Minnesota's residents live in the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area known as the Twin Cities, the center of transportation, business, and industry, and home to an internationally known arts community. The remainder of the state consists of western prairies now given over to intensive agriculture; eastern deciduous forests, also heavily farmed and settled; and the less populated North Woods.

Arts & Entertainment

The Twin Cities is one of the most vibrant performing arts communities outside of New York City. If you’re drawn to the arts, you can spend much time enjoying Minnesota’s offerings—art museums; symphony and jazz concerts; dance; opera; musicals and Broadway touring shows.

The Twin cities are also home to theMall of America offering over 500 stores. Besides shopping, the Mall of America has an indoor amusement park, an aquarium and other attractions. You can also visit the Minnesota Zoo, the Como Park Zoo, and Valleyfair. More information about Arts & Entertainment.

Parks & Outdoors

Minnesotans are known for enjoying all four season in our wilderness and its many outdoor activity opportunities. In the Land of 10,000 Lakes, you're never far away from at least one of them. From small, rural lakes to Lake Superior, Minnesota fishing, whether open water or ice fishing, is some of the best there is! Biking, boating, camping, canoeing/kayaking, hunting, golf, hiking/backpacking, skiing, snowmobiling, cross country and downhill skiing, and swimming. The twin cities area is also a golfer's paradise with over 100 public courses within a 45 minutes drive of downtown.

The seven-county metro area boasts one of the most extensive regional parks and trail systems in the country — 49 regional parks and park reserves and 28 regional trails, and 6 special recreation areas. There are also four state parks (William O'Brien, Fort Snelling, Afton, and Minnesota Valley Trail); two state trails (Luce Line and Minnesota-Wisconsin Boundary); and 1,000 locally owned parks.
